Written Tarot readings: how this kind of reading works

I love reading Tarot in person. There is something special about shuffling the cards in front of someone, seeing their reaction when a card appears, and talking about what comes up in the moment. However, I only do those readings with my friends and family.

The reason is simple: I travel a lot and almost never stay in one place for long, so offering in-person sessions is not an option for me. That is why I began doing my readings in writing. What started as a way to adapt to my lifestyle ended up showing me advantages I had not imagined, both for me and for the people who consult me.

In this article, I'll explain how a written Tarot reading works, how it differs from a live reading, what you'll find in your report, and who may find it the best option.

What changes when a reading is written

The essentials stay the same: the same cards, meanings, and depth as in an in-person reading. What changes is how the interpretation takes shape and how you receive it.

In a live reading, the interpretation emerges as we talk. In writing, I can give each spread all the time it needs: look closely at each card, see how the cards relate to one another, and connect their message to your specific situation before putting it into words. The result is a more organized and more developed interpretation.

For your part, you don't have to remember everything on the spot. You receive the full reading, read it when you have time to do so calmly, and return to it whenever you need to. The reading is not confined to one moment: it stays with you throughout the process you're going through.

How it works, step by step

The process is simple and arranged entirely through WhatsApp. There are three stages to a reading:

You send your questions

You write to me with what you want to ask and, if you feel comfortable, a little context for each situation. If you are unsure how to phrase your questions, I help you shape them so the cards can respond clearly. This step matters because much of the reading depends on the question.

I lay out cards for each question

Once your questions are set, I shuffle and lay out a spread for each one, focusing on the situation you want to ask about. Then I look at the cards as a whole: not only what each one means, but how they relate to one another and the message they form together.

You receive your reading

When the interpretation is ready, I send the report to you on WhatsApp. It includes photos of the cards that appeared and an interpretation applied to each of your questions. You can save the document and even print it if you prefer reading on paper.

Does it work like a live reading?

This is one of the questions I hear most often, and my answer is yes. The cards do not respond to someone's physical presence, but to the question and the energy of the situation being explored. When I shuffle with your question in mind, the spread reflects your situation as it would if you were sitting in front of me.

There is something many people appreciate about this format: your gestures and reactions do not influence the interpretation. In an in-person reading, a reader may unconsciously be guided by what they see on the person's face. In writing, I rely only on the cards and what you have told me.

What you'll find in your reading

The report is organized by question. For each one, you will see the cards that appeared in the spread and what each means in the context of your question. These are not generic definitions: every card is interpreted in relation to your situation and the other cards beside it.

From there, the interpretation brings everything together into a clear message: what is happening, what is influencing it, and what you can do in response. The reading can help you understand what you are experiencing and decide how to move forward.

Everything is explained in clear, approachable language. Even if you have never had a Tarot reading before, you will be able to follow every part of the interpretation.

The benefits of a written Tarot reading

Beyond convenience, this format has practical benefits that make a difference to your experience of the reading:

  • It does not depend on schedules: you do not have to arrange an appointment or worry about time zone differences. You can ask from any country.
  • You can reread it whenever you like: the reading remains yours, and returning to it weeks or months later often reveals details you missed at first.
  • It lets you think through your questions calmly: there is no rush or pressure in the moment. You can take time to say exactly what you need to know.
  • None of the interpretation gets lost: in a spoken reading, it is easy to forget some of what was said. In writing, every detail is recorded.
  • It feels more private for some people: some find it easier to write about personal matters than to talk about them out loud.

What to know before choosing this format

Written Tarot also has some features worth knowing about. The main one is that there is no real-time exchange: unlike in a live session, you cannot interrupt the reading to ask a question halfway through.

That is why it helps to think through your questions from the start. If anything is unclear when you receive your reading, you can write to me and I will explain it. If new questions arise, we can explore them in another reading.

I have three simple suggestions to make your questions work well. Ask open-ended questions that begin with “what” or “how,” rather than questions with a yes-or-no answer. Focus each question on one topic. And add a little context about the situation: that helps make the interpretation much more precise.

Who a written Tarot reading is ideal for

This format is often ideal for people who value processing information at their own pace: those who prefer to read calmly, underline passages, return to a sentence, or take a few days to understand what the reading shows them.

It is also a good option if you live far away, have a complicated schedule, or find it hard to open up when speaking to someone in real time. And if this is your first Tarot reading, receiving it in writing can feel reassuring: there is no pressure, nothing to memorize, and everything is explained.
