Signs That You're Going Through a Spiritual Awakening

Have you ever felt like you’re changing too quickly, without really understanding why? That the people, places, and routines that used to make you feel good now seem foreign to you? That you need something different, even though you don’t know exactly what? If this sounds familiar, you’re probably going through a spiritual awakening.
Sometimes this process starts off subtly, but little by little it becomes impossible to ignore. There’s something inside you that no longer fits with the life you’ve been living, even though the new path hasn’t yet become fully clear.
And while it may feel confusing or uncomfortable at first, it’s also the beginning of a much deeper process that, over time, opens the door to a more mindful, more aligned, and more authentic way of life. In this article, I’ll explain what a spiritual awakening really is, what its most common signs are, and how to navigate it with a little more awareness.
What Is a Spiritual Awakening?
A spiritual awakening is a profound process of inner transformation in which your perspective on life begins to shift. Things that once seemed important to you lose their significance, and you begin to feel a calling toward something more authentic, more profound, and more deeply connected to who you truly are.
It’s not something you consciously choose. Awakening usually happens when the soul decides it’s time to evolve, and it often does so through crises, upheavals, or turning points that force you to stop and see yourself in a new light. It’s not an easy process, but it is one of the most meaningful experiences a person can go through in their life.
It’s important to note that spiritual awakening doesn’t take a single form. Everyone experiences it differently. Some go through it intensely and quickly, while others do so more gradually. Some experience it with great pain, while others do so with greater serenity. There is no “right” way to awaken: there are as many ways as there are souls in the world.
The Most Common Signs of a Spiritual Awakening
These are some of the most common signs among people who are going through an awakening. You don't have to experience all of them—if you recognize several of them, you're likely already in this process.
- Dissatisfaction with your current life: Suddenly, the things that used to fulfill you no longer do. Your job, your relationships, your daily routine, where you live—everything starts to feel small, alien, or meaningless.
- A need for solitude and silence: You feel a deep desire to be alone, to tune out external noise, and to spend time in quiet places. Superficial social situations begin to wear you out more than usual.
- Changes in relationships: Some relationships naturally drift apart, others grow stronger, and new people come into our lives at just the right moment. Some connections lose their resonance, while others grow deeper.
- Greater emotional sensitivity: You’re moved by things that didn’t affect you before. You cry more easily, feel the energy of places and people more intensely, and sense what others are feeling even if they don’t say it.
- Profound questions: Big questions start to arise: Who am I? Why am I here? What is the point of what I'm doing? These are questions you didn't ask yourself before or that you used to brush aside easily.
- An interest in spirituality: Suddenly, you find yourself drawn to topics that didn't interest you before. Meditation, energy work, holistic therapies, books on spirituality, and practices for self-discovery. Something is pulling you in that direction.
- Changes in habits: You start feeling the urge to take care of yourself in a different way. You change your diet, how you rest, and the things you consume. Your body is asking for something different, and you start listening to it.
- Vivid and frequent dreams: You start dreaming more often, with greater detail, about scenes that feel like they carry a message. Sometimes people who are no longer with us appear, or recurring symbols show up, or you have dreams that leave you with a particular feeling when you wake up.
Why Awakening Often Comes With a Crisis
There’s something I think is important to clarify, because it might help you navigate what you’re going through more effectively: spiritual awakening is almost never comfortable. It’s often accompanied by difficult moments, crises, and breakdowns that seem insurmountable.
There’s a very specific reason for this. For something new to be born within you, something old must first die. And that inner death—that letting go of who you no longer are—feels like a real loss. You lose connections, you lose certainties, you lose the version of yourself you’ve been up until now. And that hurts, even if it’s necessary.
Many people go through what is known as the Dark Night of the Soul during this process: a phase where everything seems to be falling apart at once and there seems to be no way out. I went through it, and I can tell you that at the time, I felt like I would never make it out. However, it was precisely that phase that led me to become who I am today and to do the work I do.
There’s no single formula for getting through this process, but there are some things that can help you navigate it with greater awareness and less suffering. The first step is to stop fighting what’s happening. When you resist, the pain only intensifies. When you accept it, everything starts to flow differently.
It also helps a lot to seek support. This could be a therapist, a spiritual guide, or a group of people who are going through something similar. You don’t have to do this alone, and you don’t have to understand everything that’s happening to you. Sometimes it’s enough just to feel supported while you’re going through it.
And one more piece of advice: take it slowly. Spiritual awakening doesn’t happen in a month or two. It’s a process that unfolds over time, in layers, with ups and downs. Trust the pace your soul chooses. What’s meant to happen will happen, at just the right time.
Tools That Can Help You Through the Process
There are various tools that can help you navigate this phase with greater clarity. Meditation, energy work, writing, and holistic therapies. Everyone finds what works best for them, and often it’s a combination of several approaches that ultimately supports the process.
In my case, what helped me the most were the Akashic Records. I turned to them at my lowest point, without really knowing what I was looking for, and the information I received helped me understand what I was going through. Realizing that there was a purpose behind the crisis—that it was part of a larger plan—was what allowed me to start moving forward.
What Comes After the Transformation
Spiritual awakening, though it begins with crisis and confusion, does not end in pain. There comes a time when the storm subsides, and everything that fell apart begins to fall back into place in a more coherent way. The questions that tormented you find answers. The things you lost stop hurting.
After the breakdown comes the rebuilding. But it’s not a return to who you were before; rather, it’s a transformation into something entirely new. Those who go through this process often find that, once the most intense phase has passed, a mental clarity they didn’t have before emerges, along with a deeper sense of peace and a sense of purpose that begins to guide every decision.
What is often overlooked is that spiritual awakening prepares you to live differently. It is not just an internal healing process, but the beginning of a more conscious, more connected way of being in the world—one that is more aligned with what truly matters. Some people discover talents they didn’t know they had. Others find their true calling. Many develop the ability to support others in their own journeys, because they’ve been where they are.
The transformation that seems to tear you apart as you go through it is, in reality, the process of building a more authentic version of yourself. And that version has a lot to offer.
If You Feel Like You're Going Through This Process
If you recognized yourself in several of the signs I mentioned, it’s very likely that you’re going through a spiritual awakening. What you’re experiencing—even if it’s difficult right now—is the beginning of a journey that will lead you to live with greater authenticity, purpose, and connection.
The most important thing right now is to give yourself the space to go through this, without rushing anything and without judging yourself. Trust that something inside you knows what it’s doing, even if your mind doesn’t understand it yet. In time, everything will start to fall into place, and what seems like chaos today will reveal itself as a plan.
If you feel that now is a good time to gain clearer insight into your journey and understand what your soul is going through at this stage, you can learn more about my Akashic Records readings, where I explain in detail how I work and what you can expect from a session.
