Automatic Writing: What It Is and How to Use It for Channeling

Before I started channeling, I had no idea that such a thing existed. The idea that one could sit in front of a piece of paper, quiet the mind, and allow words to appear that don’t come from one’s own thoughts would have struck me as, at the very least, very strange.

Today, it’s part of my daily routine. This practice is called automatic writing, and it’s the main tool I use to channel readings from the Akashic Records. In this article, I’ll tell you what it is, how it came into my life, and how I practice it today.

What Is Automatic Writing?

Automatic writing is a channeling technique in which the writer writes without the intervention of the rational mind. The content is not planned, no corrections are made as one goes along, and there is no thinking before writing. The words flow, and one writes them down as they appear.

Behind this lies a simple principle: when the logical mind becomes quiet enough, a channel opens through which information from other dimensions can enter. This could be information from the Akashic Records, messages from spiritual guides or teachers, or even from your own Higher Self.

What sets it apart from ordinary writing is that there is no conscious effort involved. You aren’t thinking about what to write or searching for the right words. It is more like a state in which you become a channel: the words flow through you and are translated into text, without your mind processing them in the usual way.

How This Practice Came Into My Life

As I mentioned in the About Me section of my website, I began exploring automatic writing at a very specific time. I was going through a period of intense personal exploration and had started accessing my own Akashic Records on a daily basis, as a way to guide myself.

Every day I would sit down, clear my mind, ask a question, and write down the first thing that came to mind. I didn’t know if it was channeling, my own thoughts, or intuition. But one thing was clear to me: doing this made me feel good. It calmed me down, helped me find my bearings, and gave me clarity amid all the confusion.

During the first few months, I wasn't sure if I was really connecting with anything. But I kept at it, because it brought me peace. And over time, as I let go of my expectations about how the channeling "should" happen, something inside me began to open up. The messages became clearer, more specific, and more genuine.

How It Works from the Inside

Describing what happens during automatic writing isn't easy, because it's more of a sensory experience than a rational one. But there are certain elements that recur every time.

First of all, the mind enters a different state—one that is gentler and more open. It’s not a deep trance, but rather a particular kind of presence, in which you are awake but your rational mind is in the background. It’s as if your attention has shifted elsewhere.

From there, the words start to come. Sometimes they flow freely, sometimes they come bit by bit. You don’t hear a voice—at least not in my case. It’s more like an inner knowing, a sense of understanding that translates into words without me having to think them through.

And here’s something very important: while I’m channeling, I don’t interfere with the content. I don’t correct it, I don’t rephrase it, and I don’t polish the wording. I write down exactly what comes through, using the exact words that come through. That fidelity is what gives the message its authenticity.

Once the channeling is complete, I do go over it more thoroughly. I polish up the wording, check the spelling, and rephrase any sentences that were left incomplete. But that’s a follow-up task that never alters the content or the meaning of what came through—it simply presents it in a clearer, more readable way.

Automatic Writing in My Akashic Records Readings

In my readings, automatic writing is the primary tool through which I receive information. When someone schedules a session with me, I access their Records, ask the questions they sent me, and write down what comes through, word for word.

Since I work in writing, this method allows me to provide each person with a report that accurately reflects what was channeled, without it being filtered through my own interpretation. The messages are recorded exactly as they were received, with their tone, rhythm, and essence intact.

This also gives the client the opportunity to revisit the report as often as they need to. Many people tell me that they reread their readings months later and discover layers of meaning they hadn’t noticed the first time around. That’s because channeled messages have this quality: they resonate differently at different points in your life.

What Might Come Up When Channeling in This Way

When the channeling is clear, all kinds of information can come through. In my case, the following tend to appear during a reading:

  • Direct answers to the questions the person asked, with the depth and detail appropriate to the situation.
  • Messages from spiritual guides and teachers, each with its own unique tone and a specific message for that person.
  • Messages from loved ones who are no longer with us, often containing intimate details that deeply move the recipient.
  • Stories from past lives that relate to what the person is experiencing today, serving as pieces that help make sense of the present.
  • Practical guidance, specific steps, or internal attitudes that can help in the current process.

Can Anyone Practice It?

This is a question I’m asked all the time, and my answer is always the same: yes, anyone can practice automatic writing. It’s not a gift reserved for a select few, but a latent ability we all possess that can be developed through practice.

That said, as with everything, some people find it easier to connect right from the start, while others need more time to tune in. This depends on many factors: personal history, prior experience with intuition, and where you are in life. It’s not a competition; it’s simply a process that unfolds differently for everyone.

What is certain is that it requires perseverance. It’s not a matter of sitting down once and waiting for a clear message to arrive. It also requires letting go of expectations. At first, it’s normal to have doubts, to wonder whether what you’re receiving is real or imagined. With practice, that critical voice gradually quiets down, and what emerges begins to reveal itself with greater clarity and confidence.

Tips for Getting Started

If you feel the urge to explore this practice, here are a few suggestions that helped me during my first few months. These aren’t rules, but rather starting points that can be adapted to your own way of connecting.

The first step is to create a quiet, distraction-free space where you can sit for a few minutes. You might light a candle, play some soft music, or simply sit in silence. The important thing is that you feel comfortable and open to the experience.

Next, ask yourself a specific question—something you’re genuinely curious about at that moment. Write the question down on a piece of paper, and then start writing down whatever comes to mind, without judging it or correcting it. It doesn’t matter if it seems sparse or incoherent at first; what matters is sticking with the practice.

And here’s something I always recommend: do it regularly. A little bit every day creates a much deeper connection than one long session once a month. It’s consistency that opens the channel, not intensity.

When Channeling Becomes a Service

The most beautiful part of my experience with automatic writing is seeing how something that started out as a private practice has, over time, become a tool for supporting others. For years, I did it just for myself, without knowing if I would ever share that space.

Today, it’s a central part of my work, and every time I open someone’s Records and start writing, I feel the same sense of wonder as I did the first time. Because what comes through never ceases to amaze me, never ceases to teach me, and never ceases to move me.
