How to Recognize the Signs From Your Spiritual Guides

Some people claim to see signs everywhere. Others, on the other hand, feel they’ve never received anything. And the truth lies nowhere at either extreme. Signs do exist and reach all of us, but not everything that looks like a sign actually is one. Learning to distinguish between what is a message and what isn’t is a fundamental part of the journey.
Your guides communicate with you through subtle language: symbols, synchronicities, encounters, inner feelings, and small details that appear in your daily life but go completely unnoticed if you aren’t paying attention. In this article, I’ll tell you what the most common signs are, how to distinguish them from mere coincidences, and how to start perceiving them more clearly.
Who Are Your Spiritual Guides?
Your spiritual guides are beings of light who accompany you on your journey from other planes of consciousness. Some have been with you since before you were born, while others join you at different points in your life depending on what you need to go through.
They are not distant or unattainable figures. They are loving presences who know your path, your lessons, and your purpose. Their role is not to make decisions for you or interfere with your free will, but to accompany you, support you, and offer guidance when you need it. Always with love, never with judgment.
It’s very important to understand that you don’t need to be psychic or a clairvoyant to connect with them. We all have spirit guides, and we can all receive their messages. All it takes is developing a more sensitive awareness of the subtle realm—that dimension where they manifest themselves.
The Most Common Signals Sent by Guides
Signs can take many different forms. Sometimes they’re obvious, almost impossible to ignore. Other times they’re so subtle that they go unnoticed if you’re not attuned to what’s happening around you. What matters isn’t the form itself, but the effect they have on you: a sign from your guides always stirs something inside you.
Here are some of the most common ones:
- Repeating numbers: Constantly seeing 11:11, 22:22, 333, 444, or other number sequences. They don't always mean the same thing, but their repeated appearance is a wake-up call.
- Encounters with animals: Coming across an animal that appears at a significant moment, especially if it is an unusual animal. Butterflies, dragonflies, specific birds, feathers in unexpected places.
- Songs that come on at key moments: A song you hear just when you were thinking about something related to its lyrics. Or songs you associate with someone who’s no longer here, which play at meaningful moments.
- Very specific coincidences: Thinking of someone and receiving a message from them just minutes later. Someone recommending a book you just happened to need to read. The solution to something you were looking for appearing, without you even asking for it.
- Vivid or revealing dreams: Dreams that you remember with unusual clarity, featuring messages, people, or scenes that you feel have a deeper meaning.
- Physical sensations: Chills for no apparent reason, a gentle touch on the head or shoulder, a sense of someone being there when you're alone. These are ways in which energy becomes perceptible.
- Phrases or words that come to mind without thinking: That idea that pops into your head with such clarity, that doesn't seem to come from reasoning, that you know is the right answer. That, too, is a message.
How to Tell the Difference Between a Sign and a Coincidence
One of the most common questions along this journey is: "How do I know if it's a sign or if I'm just imagining it?" And the answer has more to do with your inner feeling than with the event itself.
A true sign is usually accompanied by an inner click—a sense of immediate recognition, as if something inside you were saying, “This is for me.” You don’t have to convince yourself; you just know it. Your mind may have doubts later, but your first reaction is usually one of certainty.
Another way to tell them apart is to pay attention to the context. If you were thinking about an important decision and a sign related to that appears, it’s most likely a message. Spirit guides speak at just the right moment, and that synchronicity between what you’re experiencing and what appears is one of their clearest signs.
How to Set Up the Channel to Receive Them
The signs are always there. What changes is our ability to perceive them. And that ability can be cultivated. It’s not about performing complicated rituals or having special gifts: it’s about being more present and paying closer attention to the subtle details.
The first thing that helps a lot is quieting the mind. When we’re rushing around with a thousand things on our minds, we miss the signs. When we quiet our minds a little, everything becomes clearer. That’s why practices like meditation, silent walks, or simply stepping away from your phone for a little while each day are so helpful for tuning into the subtle.
Another thing that works really well is asking. If you need clarity on something, you can speak directly to your guides and ask them for a sign. There’s no need for a specific protocol or formula: just reach out to them with a clear intention. What you ask for with an open heart usually comes to you. And often it arrives in unexpected ways, which is also part of the process.
Keep Track of the Signals
One thing I highly recommend to those who are just beginning to develop this awareness is to keep a journal of cues. Write down what comes up, when it happens, and what you were thinking or feeling at the time. Over time, this record becomes very revealing.
What seems isolated at first begins to reveal patterns. You realize that certain signs appear at certain times, that there are symbols your guides use more often than others, and that there are themes they keep bringing up. That information becomes a valuable roadmap for understanding how your spiritual team communicates with you.
And one more thing: simply writing down the signs gives them more power. It’s as if, by acknowledging them, you honor them, and that opens the door for more to come. What is ignored is silenced. What is acknowledged is amplified.
What to Do With the Messages You Receive
Receiving a sign is only the first step. What really makes a difference is what you do with that information. Because the guides don’t send you signs just to entertain you: they send them so that you’ll take action, reflect, and make a change.
If a sign invites you to let go of a situation, listening to it means beginning to let go. If a sign shows you a new path, listening to it means encouraging yourself to explore it. The sign alone doesn’t transform anything: transformation comes when you integrate what you receive and apply it to your actual life.
This also has a retroactive effect: when your guides see that you’re paying attention and acting on what comes through, they send you more messages. It’s as if a conversation is established—a back-and-forth. The more you listen, the more they speak to you. The more you ignore them, the more they fall silent.
When You Want a Deeper Connection
Everyday signs are beautiful, but sometimes you want to take it a step further. You want to receive more specific messages, hear what the guides have to say about specific topics, and learn their perspective on what you’re going through. And that’s why there are tools that allow for that direct connection.
An Akashic Records reading is one such experience. During each reading, in addition to answering the questions the client brings, specific messages from their guides often emerge: guidance, words of encouragement, and insights into the situations the person is currently facing. And often, these messages arrive with a clarity and tenderness that are deeply moving.
If you feel that now is a good time to open a direct channel with your guides and receive their messages on a deeper level, you can learn more about my Akashic Record readings, where I explain in detail how I work and what you can expect from a session.
